44

I'm not sure about the changes our country is going through. I can only hope for the best. What I AM sure about is that the man in this photo, goofing off and playing with a baby, can't be all bad. I HAVE HOPE!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Several blogs I follow are participating in a fun little thing today, I thought I would share it here.

Basically the gist of it is, to honor the changes being made in our country today, post a picture on your blog that speaks to you of hope, optimism, etc. It doesn't to have anything to do with the inauguration itself, just something that speaks to you on a personal level. Then post the photo along with 44 words about it or about today itself, since Obama is our 44th President.

You can do this regardless of your political views, you did not have to vote for Obama in order to be able to participate.

This idea originated here: http://practicalbrownbob.blogspot.com/2009/01/44-calling-all-bloggers.html and I first learned of it on Creative Musings.

Things I wish I could say out loud

Hopefully this will be theraputic, because heaven KNOWS I need it right about now.

1) I'm sad that we don't talk anymore. I hate that I never get to see you, and I know that it's completely my fault. I'm sorry about what happened, it never should have, and I feel horrible. If I were you, I'd be mad at me too. I miss you. Also, I'm sad I don't know anything about your life. I have to find out things via facebook? WOW. I'm a terrible friend, and for that I'm sorry.

2) I always miss you, and I'm sad things didn't work out the way we wanted them to. Hopefully it'll be better this way. I hope you end up happy!

3) JUST LOVE ME ALREADY! I'm sick of waiting around for you to realize that we're perfect for each other.

4) I can't apologize for what happened, because I don't feel bad about it. And I feel like you're blowing things out of proportion. I've always thought that you can't function unless you have some type of drama going on ALL THE TIME. I don't want to be dragged into it, as much as I love you. I am sorry that you're upset with me, and I'm sorry I wasn't as up front about things as I should have been, but you're not willing to hear me say any of this, so...

5) I've never been able to tell if we're friends or not. I feel better about myself when I'm not around you. I'm starting to realize that it's not worth it. Don't be surprised if you don't hear from me for a while.

6) Yes, we dated. Yes, it didn't work out. No, I'm not in love with you anymore. GET OVER IT. Can't we just be friends? I hate that I can't talk to you anymore.

7) Come home already. I miss our conversations where we both used to pour our souls out. And now you're so dang far away, and I can't function.

8) I thank God every night for you. You're the best thing I've got going in my life right now, and I'm SO grateful for every second I have with you!

9) MAKE A DECISION. I'm not just going to keep coming around when you don't want to commit to anything. Can't we just talk this through?! It doesn't have to be as messy and complicated as you think it does.

Old Man Winter

No, Casey, I'm not talking about you.
This is EVEN COOLER than you are. =]

Just looking outside and you can tell Old Man Winter paid Cedar City a visit, and I've heard he came to Salt Lake, too! But in Lake Stevens, Washington, it looks like he made a personal appearance! This icicle was found hanging from Jeremy Olden's home. Here's a closer view:

Holiday Greetings

To All My Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my
best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially
responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral
celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within
the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of
your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with
respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or
traditions of others, or their choice not to practice
religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a
fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically
uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally
accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for
the calendars of choice of other cultures whose
contributions to society have helped make America great. Not
to imply that America
is necessarily greater than any other
country nor the only America
in the Western Hemisphere .
Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed,
color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual
preference of the wishee.

To My Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Life is like a slinky....

Sometimes it's long and sproingy,
Sometimes it's short and sproingy,
And sometimes it gets all stepped on and bent out of shape, and you can never right it no matter how hard you try, and for the rest of your life you're stuck with this pathetic, broken slinky.
And what good is that?

Rock-paper-scizzors?

I understand how scizzors can beat paper, and rock can beat scizzors, but there's no way that paper can beat rock. Is paper supposed to magically wrap around rock and leave it immoblie? If so, why can't paper do this to scizzors? Screw scizzors, why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of college ruled notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they take notes in class? I'll tell you why, because it's preposterous! Paper can't beat up anybody! A rock could mangle a sheet of paper in seconds. When I play rock-paper-scizzors, I always choose rock. Then, when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper, I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist, and say "Oh, I'm sorry. I thought paper would protect you. ...Idiot."

Song of the Moment #3

"I am a Rock" by Simon and Garfunkel

A winters day in a deep and dark december.
I am alone.
Gazing from my window to the streets below on a freshly fallen, silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock, I am an island.
I've built walls, a fortress deep and mighty that none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain. I am a rock, I am an island.
Don't talk of love.
I've heard the words before.
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock, I am an island.
I have my books and my poetry to protect me.
I am shielded in my armor.
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock, I am an island.
And a rock feels no pain. And an island never cries.

Bleh.

I don't feel like myself recently.
I'm not sure I know how to explain it.
I don't feel like doing anything, I'm not as cheerful and upbeat as I used to be.
I just feel like sleeping all the time, and not ever getting out of bed.
I may have seasonal depression.
Or I may have mono.
Or, I may be in a spiritual rut, which I think is the most likely of all.
I don't know why I've been having such a hard time recently doing all the little things that I know I should be.
It isn't a hard thing to say my prayers or read my scriptures, so why aren't I doing it more often?
I feel so... ungrateful?
I'm trying to be better recently, but I don't have the desire I once did.
I don't know.
Bleh.

6 Unspectacular Quirks

I have been tagged to list 6 things about myself that some of you may or may not know! This should be... interesting.

1 - I don't like it when my food touches other kinds of food on my plate. For example, when my jello salad touches the ranch from my house salad. TOTALLY ruins my appetite. Foods that are meant to mix, however, are fine (ie: mashed potatoes and gravy).

2 - I can't go to sleep at night if there are socks on my feet. It makes me claustrophobic. I also get claustrophobic if the blankets are tucked under the mattress. As a result, my bed is disastrous to make every morning.

3 - I will go to sparknotes.com, print off the character summaries, themes and symbols, etc from the website, and glue them into the binding of my book, to enhance my reading experience. Not all the time, but fairly often.

4 - I love ANYTHING to do with black licorice flavouring. From licorice, to gum, to altoids, to gumdrops and jellybeans, to candles. That is the most heavenly smell and taste in the entire world.

5 - If I ever had to choose a painful disease from which to die, I would choose tuberculosis. It's such a romantic disease. Not romantic in an "I love you" way, but "characterized by strangeness or variety; suggestive of adventure; suited to romance; wild; picturesque." (thank you, dictionary.com) It's so adventurous, and so many literary and film heroines have suffered from it. (ie, Satine from Moulin Rouge!) All of Edgar Allen Poe's family members died of "The Red Death" as it was called, which made him so fascinated with morbidity. It's just adventuresome and charming.

6 - I never realized I have this problem, until I heard Dani Kent talking about it. When people are discussing the human body, most notably surgeries or injuries, I can FEEL the bones in my body, and it grosses me out. this was never a problem until I heard her mention it. Even now, as I type this, I can feel the bones in my wrists and elbows against the desktop, and it makes my skin crawl.

Well, that's it for MY traits, but the terms and conditions of this game require me to tag six other people. The one stipulation, you have to link me in your blog, if you haven't already. Their rules, not mine. Truthfully, I don't care if you link me or not. I'm not entirely sure I want all of cyberspace reading my innermost thoughts....

But I digress. I nominate Casey Winters, Kate Daly, Cailie Ercanbrack, Crystalyn and/or Matt Jaynes - whichever notices first, Hye Soo Dixon, and Reilly Turner. Get a-crackin' folks.

No big deal...

This friggin' huge bug was only RIGHT in front of my doorway just barely.

It's about two inches long, no joke.

This thing is Satan's very own insect.
Creepy.

I'll post the pictures I took of it later.

Two years later

Today is Edwin's homecoming.
I can't believe that two years have come and gone.
I saw him Friday night, and it wasn't awkward at all, so that's good.
But he's changed a lot, and I've changed a lot.
I don't expect anything to come of this, and
frankly I don't necessarily WANT anything to come of this.
Except for being friends again. That'll be nice.

20 September, 2008

Well, well, well... look who came crawling back

Yup, it's me. FINALLY blogging again.
I'm currently going to school at SUU, and just livin' the dream.
Hopefully I'll be better at posting on this dang thing.
Meantime, here's two photos I took... for you all to look at.

My Dream Man

So I started thinking about my dream man. Not really what he looks like because recently I have become less and less enchanted by the tall, dark, and handsome guys I have spent my whole life longing for. I started to think more about what he was like. What I would love about him, what qualities he would possess that would make me wonder why I ever even considered guys that weren’t him, and how we would spend our leisure time together. As I thought about all the things I want in a guy I realized that I was more or less formulating a checklist for any man who would wish to be with me. So here you go fellas, here are the things that I dream about having in my husband. Here is how to win my heart…

Star Wars: I want my husband to love Star Wars, like I do. It isn’t huge thing, but it is something that I love. I want my husband to be able to take a fraction of his day and just sit with me. But not just with me, I want to be able to host Star Wars Marathon parties. I want my husband to love to entertain and have a good time. Let us examine the underlying issue. The pertinent issue is that I want my husband and I to have some similar interests. I don’t expect us to align perfectly; in fact if that was the case I fear it would end up more like an eclipse then an alignment. I just want to be able to hang out with my husband and do things we both love.

Attitude: My husband-to-be has some serious attitude. I come from a family and an environment that is a little bit on the rocky side. Don’t get me wrong; with that statement I don’t intend on incriminating my family, my family is the best there ever was. My intention with the use of the adjective “rocky” was more like a reference to hiking. Our family is tantamount to a large mountain that you have to be well conditioned to compete with. The most difficult hikes are the most rewarding ones. So like that mountain, my family will require a man that can hang with sarcastic conversation and be able to dish it out too. There is no underlying issue with this attribute, it’s pretty cut and dry.

Jeopardy: My husband will be someone who will sit down with me and watch Jeopardy. He will also be able to correctly answer some of the riddles. I don’t need a guy that has memorized all the Encyclopedia Britannica’s but I do want someone who can carry on an intelligent conversation. I want a guy who doesn’t get lost when I use words that you don’t hear every day. My husband will have the ability to stump me and I will love every minute of it.

Thank You: A wise man once told me that using the phrase “thank you” is a mark of intelligence, so I guess this kinda has something to do with the previous paragraph. The man of my dreams says “thank you”. He can recognize when thanks are due and he is not afraid to say it. I’m not hinting to the fact that I am one who frequently does things that deserve thanks, but when those moments do roll around there is nothing I love more then to be told thank you.

Church: I am not currently acquainted with my future husband, but this much I can tell you. He went to church last Sunday. He went last Sunday, and he’ll be there next Sunday too. There is a good chance he has a calling and he is the guy in the ward that the Bishop knows he can count on. I guess more importantly the Lord knows He can count on him and trust him. That is the kind of man I will be with. He will not be perfect, nor will he have a spotless past, however, he expects a lot of himself and he will amount to a lot too. I guess when you boil this attribute down to its most simplistic idea; you come up with a man who knows how to discipline himself. He knows when to say no, and when to say yes. And that my friends, is the man for me.

So there you go fellas, (if there are any that read this…) that is how you can win my heart. If you can look at yourself and say that you have all these qualities and attributes, then we may have a very bright future! So until I meet my husband, I will be waiting patiently, and probably posting many a pointless blog more.
