Voicemail Favourites May 09, 2009 - July 4, 2009

Joe Spear, May 06
Yeah sure it's 2009, and I should know what to do at the beep, but after your little message, that dumb voicemail bitch goes on and on about what to do after the beep. Or press some number to leave a numeric page, or to something else for a callback number and IT NEVER ENDS and you just listen to it for like 10 MINUTES and you're just like SHUT UP!!! I JUST WANT TO LEAVE A MESSAGE BECAUSE IT'S 2009 AND I DON'T NEED YOUR DAMN INSTRUCTIONS ON WHAT...heh heh. These people are looking at me funny. Call me back, bye!

Lorin Bruns, May 25
Hey Kami, this is Lorin. Um... seems like I haven't talked to you in a long time. Anyway, just seeing what you're up to, you're probably still at work, so just gimme a ring-a-ling, uh.. when you get off. Oh, hey! I just left Walmart and the automatic doors didn't open far enough, and I wasn't really walking that fast, but they didn't open wide enough fast enough, and I wasn't running, I was just walking. And then my left shoulder TOTALLY just hit the left side of the door because it didn't open very much, and like bent it. And I was like "OOOOWWWW!" haha. Anyways, I just kept on walking, and people were like.... "ooookay." The sad thing was there was this couple RIGHT behind me too, so I was like (whispers) "Dang, this is embarassing." Because it WAS very embarassing. Anywho. Uh, yeah. I'll see you later. Bye.

Casey Winters, May 27
Um, it is 2009, but I'm not really sure... what the beep means.... Am I supposed to talk after the beep, or... do a little Irish jig? ... Call me back!

Seth Dimond, May 29
Hey friend, how you doin'? Hope you're having a good birthday. This is your friend down in Mexico, I mean San Diego. Uh yeah. So thought I'd call and say happy birthday to ya. The big 21 are you? Good deal. Awesome. Well, you should email me back on Monday, or else, alright have a good one. bye.

Crystalyn Jaynes, May 29
"Happy happy birthday, Happy happy birthday, happy happy birthday, HAAAAAPPY happy birthday." Hey Kam, just calling to tell you happy birthday, and I hope you have a good day and stuff. And, hopefully you're doing something fun. Love you, see you later.

Matt Hanchey and Jesse Maher, June 07
Hey Kami, this is Matt! And Jesse! And we're just making zombie pictures because we're cool like that. And so I thought I would call you because I said I would, and say thank you for offering to watch that movie with me, because I really wanted to actually today, but then... now you're calling me. And why did I even think to leave a message, because I knew you were just going to call me anyway? 'Kay bye!

Adan Bojorquez, June 08
Miss Kami, I have one thing to tell you... BIIIIIIIIIITCH. Anyways, I'm back in Cedah. And you should come over with me and Amber to Amber's house. For tacos and "He's Just Not That Into You" tonight. What time? We don't actually know. But it will happen. Amen. I love you. Can't wait to see your bod. 'Kay bye.

Amber Heifner, June 08
Oh hey. I'm assuming you're probably at work. Um, I just called you and P.S. your phone rings like 40 times before your voicemail kicks in. What the f is that all about? Anyway, I just wanted to call and let you know that. Call me when you get off, because we'll probably still have tacos, and we'll definitely still have "He's Just Not That Into You." so gimme a call. I Love you. And I hope to see you soon. 'Kay Bye.

Adan Bojorquez, June 08
Sistah Sisson. If by "drop by" you meant "never speak to me again" then you're doing a great job. Have a great night.

Katy Smith, June 12
Joe's right, that lady is totally annoying. I hope your plasmarming went well, see ya.

Joe Rankin, June 17
It is Wednesday, and you should send me a communication like on the internet, gimme a call, I don't care. uh, if you have any free time tomorrow, because I think I just might be heading that direction. Let me know. Via a communication. On the internet. Or gimme a call. I don't care.

Lorin Bruns, June 19
Hi Kami, This is Lorin, Your old buddy...friend. Hey, I'm going to be down in Cedar City tonight, um... Off the Cuff is doing their final show at the Grind, so they invited me to come play for a while, and I just happened to be in Utah, so I figured what the heck. Anyways, I hope to see you tonight, at least for a little while, because we never got to say goodbye last time. I'll talk to you later. Bye.

Amber Heifner, June 21
Oh hey, lesbian lover, I'm in love with you every single second of the day. I just wanted to call and say 1) I love you. And 2)my sister will be in town tomorrow evening, and I'm thinking about throwing her a small get together. Okay, basically I just want to have a small get together with my sister. But anyways, you have to come meet her! 'Kay love you bye!

Lorin Bruns, June 26
Kami! Hey Kami! How are you?! Hey, this is Lorin. Hey, sorry it's taken me so long to get back you ya. I've just been training like crazy every day. But, I did uh, check my facebook really quickly, and I saw that, uh.. did you go see Love, or ARE you going to see it??! Well, in either case, give me a call because we need to talk about it. It's AWESOME and we should definitely go again, because if you have seen it already, most likely you want to see it again. And I would definitely be up to that... um... oh you're CALLING ME. Oh, it's... uh.... alright well.. hold on... I mean, ugh... talk to you later. Bye.

Joe Spear, June 26
Kami. It's Joe. Just got out of a three hour long Shakespeare show, but it was pretty good. Anyways. Tomorrow's Saturday, I was wondering if you wanted to hang out.... If not, cool.... If yes, cool... Gimme a call, cool.... Bye.

Lorin Bruns, June 27
Hahaha. Hey, Kami how are you? This is Lorin. Hey sorry to call you so late, I know it's pretty late, but um... I am actually still in Denver and in a town called Blackhawk? I think? And I'm at a casino. Yeah, so.... kinda boring. But anyway, I'm SO EXCITED you saw Love, and I definitely think we should go and see it again, because I would definitely be down for that. So, we do need to talk. Um, anyway, I miss you Kami, I really do. I miss you a ton. Uh... I'll talk to you later, bye.

Joe Spear, June 29
What'd you change your message for? Eh, whatever. Hey, it's Joe. Gimme a call, I want to go to St. George tomorrow. So, let's do it! Do it to it. Ye-yeah. Wooo! Bye. ....Call me.

Katy Smith, June 29
Your phone message is different and it freaks me out.

Will Quack Quack

PLEASE tell me someone else is familiar with this.

When I was a tiny kid, I had an old recording on VHS of "Welcome Back, Will Quack Quack." I remember sometimes Will Quack Quack would talk funny, and I could never tell what he was saying, evidently it's a Welsh TV show created in the 80s to help kids learn to speak Welsh. (Kind of like Dora the Explorer for Spanish?)

Learn more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Quack_Quack
Watch part of it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg4rOkiDYAw

If anyone out there loves me, find me a copy of "Welcome Back, Will Quack Quack" on DVD, and I will be indebted to you forever.

You know what I never understand?

I never understand why if a white person is ethnocentric, it's viewed as racism.
But if a black person is racist, it's just ethnocentricism.
Why is that?
And it's not just because whites are the majority.
If I went where I was considered the minority, and tried to be all "White Power!"
People would say I was racist.
But the second an African American says "Black Power!"
They're just being proud of what their race has overcome.
I don't get it.

Song of the Moment - Awesome

I tried to look away but I can't resist
I can't believe that you exist
Where do you come from, we shared the day
But you're not tangled in it's pain

What I behold is awesome
awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome
awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome.

You read a book, a book of love
Within the story, you picture yourself I can tell
If I seem silent I'm just thanking someone far away
For you

What I behold is awesome
Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome
Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome

They say the world is always turning
In suspended animation
I keep yearning for you

Picture what you and I can do
Yearning for you

What I behold is awesome
Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome
Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome

Oh they say the world is always turning
In suspended animation
I keep yearning for you

You're a gem I'd never give away
If I lost everything I would hold you
In my hands and open them every time I had the chance
Dazzled by what I held
Dazzled by what I held

Or BOTH!!!

Thanks, Brock and Nancy.

Song of the Moment - Hallelujah

Well I heard there was a secret chord
That David played, and it pleased the Lord
But you don't really care for music, do ya?
Well it goes like this
The fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift
The baffled king composing Hallelujah

Well Your faith was strong but you needed proof
You saw her bathing on the roof
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you
she tied you to her kitchen chair
And she broke your throne and she cut your hair
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah

Well baby I've been here before
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor
I used to live alone before I knew ya
I've seen your flag on the marble arch
Love is not a victory march
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Well there was a time when you let me know
What's really going on below
But now you never show that to me do you?
And remember when I moved in you?
And the holy dove was moving too
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah

Well maybe there's a God above
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who'd out drew ya
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen in the light
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah

Unusual Holidays - Interational Jazz Day and Lucky Penny Day

International Jazz Day celebrates Jazz music and history, as well as Jazz musicians. Jazz music was born in America in the 1800's. Over the years, it has become popular around the world. Everyone has their favorite style of music, and many say Jazz is tops. Enjoy International Jazz Day by sitting back and listening to your favorite Jazz tunes. Preferably, listen to them today as they are being played by a live jazz band in a coffee shop, because what's better than that?!

Taken at face value, a penny doesn't buy you much, if anything. It used to. During your parents and grandparents days, a penny bought a lot of things. Most notably, Penny Candy got its name because a piece of candy cost a penny. Inflation year after year after year, eroded the penny's value. There has even been some discussion as to whether to discontinue the penny....Heaven forbid!

Song of the Moment

I wanna be free,
Like the bluebirds flying by me
Like the waves out on the blue sea.
If your love has to tie me, don't try me,
Say good-bye.

I wanna be free,
Don't say you love me say you like me,
But when I need you beside me,
Stay close enough to guide me, confide in me,
Oh-oh-oh

I wanna hold your hand,
Walk along the sand
Laughing in the sun,
Always having fun
Doing all those things
Without any strings
To tie me down.

I wanna be free,
Like the warm September wind, babe,
Say you'll always be my friend, babe.
We can make it to the end, babe,
Again, babe, I gotta say:
I wanna be free
I wanna be free
I wanna be free

Unusual Holidays - No Dirty Dishes Day

No Dirty Dishes Day is a reprieve from the daily pile of dishes to wash and dry. Day after day, we do the daily chore of washing and drying dishes, then put them away in various cabinets and drawers. We perform this task after each and every meal, and often after snacks. Even putting them in and out of the dishwasher and running it, can be a chore. I deserve a break from this routine. And, today is that day. The objective of this day is to have no dirty dishes. Solution: loaded them all in the dishwasher, just barely.

Breaking the Rule.

(Found accidentally via facebook, and I think it's absolutely beautiful.)

"Why do you tell me things?" says hers.
"I don't even know," mine answers.
Hers flexes, blossoming over her teeth--she says they're perfect. I say they're just perfect enough. An open palm is against my face. A pair of curious fingers pinch my left lobe. She buckles, laughing at me.
Mine climbs through my cheeks until it hurts. I'm laughing at me too.
If she'd look, she'd see mine: apologetically crooked. She won't look. She knows the rule. They say you're not supposed to look. No one looks. Why would you want to? It's the rule.
The backs of fingers move down her face as I break the rule.
I'm looking. I see hers, flexing again, opening like a new flower. Her's is ready. Mine is eager. Mine move closer to hers. My eyes are open when they meet. I'm watching as our smiles come together, just perfect enough.
I breathe and she's in my breath. I touch and I find her there. My head swims with her taste. She hums too softly for her to hear. My eyes are open as time loses its power. I break the rule.
It was worth it.

When Insults Had Class

(Discovered as a note by Stephen Mitton on FaceBook.)
These glorious insults are from an era when cleverness with words was still valued, before a great portion of the English language got boiled down to 4-letter words, not to mention waving middle fingers.

The exchange between Churchill & Lady Astor:
She said, "If you were my husband I'd give you poison," and he said, "If you were my wife, I'd drink it."

"He had delusions of adequacy." - Walter Kerr

"He has all the virtues I dislike and none of the vices I admire." - Winston Churchill

"A modest little person, with much to be modest about." - Winston Churchill

"I have never killed a man, but I have read many obituaries with great pleasure." - Clarence Darrow

"He has never been known to use a word that might send a reader to the dictionary." - William Faulkner (about Ernest Hemingway).

"Poor Faulkner. Does he really think big emotions come from big words?" - Ernest Hemingway (about William Faulkner)

"Thank you for sending me a copy of your book; I'll waste no time reading it." - Moses Hadas

"He can compress the most words into the smallest idea of any man I know." - Abraham Lincoln

"I didn't attend the funeral, but I sent a nice letter saying I approved of it." - Mark Twain

"He has no enemies, but is intensely disliked by his friends." - Oscar Wilde

"I am enclosing two tickets to the first night of my new play; bring a friend.... if you have one." - George Bernard Shaw to Winston Churchill

"Cannot possibly attend first night, will attend second... if there is one." - Winston Churchill, in response.

"I feel so miserable without you; it's almost like having you here." - Stephen Bishop

"He is a self-made man and worships his creator." - John Bright

"I've just learned about his illness. Let's hope it's nothing trivial." - Irvin S. Cobb

"He is not only dull himself, he is the cause of dullness in others." - Samuel Johnson

"He is simply a shiver looking for a spine to run up." - Paul Keating

"There's nothing wrong with you that reincarnation won't cure." - Jack E. Leonard

"He has the attention span of a lightning bolt." - Robert Redford

"They never open their mouths without subtracting from the sum of human knowledge." - Thomas Brackett Reed

In order to avoid being called a flirt, she always yielded easily." - Charles, Count Talleyrand

"He loves nature in spite of what it did to him." - Forrest Tucker

"Why do you sit there looking like an envelope without any address on it?" - Mark Twain

"His mother should have thrown him away and kept the stork " - Mae West

"Some cause happiness wherever they go; others, whenever they go." - Oscar Wilde

"He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lampposts... for support rather than illumination." - Andrew Lang (1844-1912)

"He has Van Gogh's ear for music." - Billy Wilder

"I've had a perfectly wonderful evening. But this wasn't it." - Groucho Marx

Voicemail Favourites May 2008 - March 2009

From Reilly: May 27, 2008
Hey Kams, it's me Rei. But I'm calling from Kate's phone. Because me, Kate, and Lyssa are hanging out. And, I don't have my cell phone on me, so if you want to talk to me you have to call my house phone. But, cuz, I... don't call right now because everyone's asleep, but I'm not going to have my phone on me for like a week or so. (aside) GO AROUND GO AROUND GO AROUND. And...um...so... that's what it means. (aside) GO AROUND GO AROUND GO AROUND. Sorry, I'm telling Aaron Herrmann to go around. Again. Sorry, I forget that I'm leaving a message when I'm leaving a message. I do it all the time. So um.. yeah. I'm done with this message. But call me later. Bye.

From Edwin: September 03, 2008
(In homestarrunner voice) Oh hewwo. You didn't answer your phone, so...gimme a call back so I can know where to go. Okay Bye.

From Reilly: November 21, 2008
Oh, what up Love-Muffin. I was just calling you because I miss you, and I wanted to hear your voice. Plus, I was thinking that we should sign up for the same class but at different colleges, so that we can like, call each other, and be like, "Oh Wow, wasn't our class great today?" And I can be like "Yeah, yeah, it was. It was like we were there together, you know?" Maybe that could be worked out. There's a couple bugs with that one. But, um... yeah, you should call me back. But I'm going to see you soon anyway, so um... okay. Love you bye.

From Casey: January 9, 2009
(falsetto voice) Yeah baby, baby yeah baby baby baby yeahhhhhhhh baby. Neon baby. Cleopatra and a bus full of old ladies and legless llamas. They're all friends of the friends of the city. Friends of the friends of the Neon Baby. (regular voice) Uh. I just love ya. That is all.

From Casey: January 20, 2009
Hey, so.... You know what I miss most about you? The way you would, you know, dress up like a man, and burp after every meal. Especially if chicken was involved. And the was you would drive that Harley Davidson through the field. Like a mad...woman-man. Yeah, that was pretty hot. And the way you would herd those cattle. Yeah. They were afraid of you. AS WAS I. That is all.

From Casey: January 22, 2009
Aww, naw, gurl. Whatcha doin? Best watch your phone, Shawty. Just callin' to see how she's rollin', and she don't even pick up! That's a flat out diss! Darn shame, cracka. Call me back, woman, or C-Dubb'll leave you for another fly honey.

From Casey: January 28, 2009
HELLO!!!! Okay, story time. So, You know that tie-fighter shirt you gave me for Christmas? Yeah, for some reason it makes me look really buff. Like, like BUFF buff. And it's really weird. And I was thinking that, and then Brady was like "Casey, you look buff in that shirt." And I was like, "I know. So weird." So, I guess you gave me some magic shirt, because I really haven't been working out. I mean, I just do push ups, but yeah. Doesn't make that much of a difference. Pretty neat. OH! And another story, this one's even better. So, I was at Cody's farewell thingy um, at his house, afterward. His little, you know, party-get-together. His cousins and his brother-in-law were playing Legos on the floor in front of my sister and I, and all of a sudden one of his little cousins was just like "Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow." Ha ha ha. It was so weird! It was out of nowhere, and I was like, "What the heck is this kid saying Bow-Chicka-Wow-Wow for? And why does he know such a thing? yeah. it was pretty good. Anyways this is a really long message. um, I hope you break a leg. OR an arm, in your play. Or a pelvic bone or something. Anyways... I love you Chief. Bye.

From Brian: January 29, 2009
Hey you, it's me. I'm just finishing classes, and thought I would give you a call and see how you're doing, and see if you're feeling any better. Love you and give me a call a little bit later. 'Kay bye!

From Brian: January 30, 2009
Hey babe, it's me. I'm just calling to say thank you for lunch, and hope you're having a good time. I think you're at work... But, um... yeah. Just that I miss you and thank you for just everything. Alright, I love you. Talk to you later. Bye.

From Casey: February 02, 2009
Hello. This is Barack Obama. I think you are a horrible American. I know all about your plan to assassinate me with a shovel. But I believe that we can change this, I believe we can convince you to use a more civilized weapon, say a gun, or a lightsaber. I have hope. This message has been approved by Barack Obama. Thank you.

From Lorin: February 07,2009
Nahava-shiva-schmende-cahorta-shcmindey-schmava. Hey. I just was talking in Italian. Apparently everybody thinks I'm Italian, I've had to tell them that I'm actually part Hawaiian so... Hey! Sisson. Um... uh, you're probably rehearsing or doing something like that. Um... a bunch of friends and I are over at my house, we're having breakfast. Breakfast at 10:00 at night! (English accent) So, if you'd like to come. You can bring whoever. You, Emilie, Brian, whoever. So, so. Yeah. Heh. Alright, I'll see you later. Bye.

From Matty: February 10, 2009
Kamasaurolophus. Um, this is the coolest kid in the world calling you. And uh. he was calling to tell you he uh... was wondering where you were, because um he has your stuff. Like your movies, like uh... Aviator. Because I took that too. Wait, did I take that from you? I might have taken that from somebody else. I dunno. Anyway. Um, yes. Uh. Calling to see what you're doing because I was going to my car, and I was going to stop bye, but (Russian accent) You're not answering your phone. Anyway, when you get this gimme a ring-a-ling. Okay bye.

From Brian: February 11, 2009
Hey baby. It's me. I'm just walking around campus right now. We need to live in Southern California. It is Feb and it's like 75 degrees, and the suns out, and it's beautiful. And it's probably very cold and snowy where we are. Where YOU are. Anyway. Um.. just calling to say hi, and that I love you, and that I hope you're having a good day, and just wanted to talk to you. Okay, talk to you later. Love you, bye.

From Brock: February 23, 2009
(long raspberry sound) You didn't come up today or call me or anything. Okay, bye.

From Bundy: February 24, 2009
Hey kiddo. It's Dallin. I just wanted to call and let you know that you did awesome. It was uh... a little more awkward than I thought it would be, not because of the show itself, but just because all the weird people looking at me because I was a guy. In the vagina monologues. Anyway. Awesome. Um. Yeah. Peace.

From Bundy: February 25, 2009
Oh, I see how it is. You don't come say hi the second time. I'm only good for, I'm only good for what? One hello? One hello you did a good job? That's all I'm good for? yeah, that's what I figured. We're not friends anymore. How about that? How do you like them apples? Not friends. Anymore. Take that, Kami. GRRRRRRR.

From Casey: February 29, 2009
Hello, this is John Morozov with KRAP radio. You've just won a free salmon. Call back to... receive your free salmon. And always remember the smelly radio station. KRAP... radio... from the toilet.

I'm not sure about the changes our country is going through. I can only hope for the best. What I AM sure about is that the man in this photo, goofing off and playing with a baby, can't be all bad. I HAVE HOPE!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Several blogs I follow are participating in a fun little thing today, I thought I would share it here.

Basically the gist of it is, to honor the changes being made in our country today, post a picture on your blog that speaks to you of hope, optimism, etc. It doesn't to have anything to do with the inauguration itself, just something that speaks to you on a personal level. Then post the photo along with 44 words about it or about today itself, since Obama is our 44th President.

You can do this regardless of your political views, you did not have to vote for Obama in order to be able to participate.

This idea originated here: http://practicalbrownbob.blogspot.com/2009/01/44-calling-all-bloggers.html and I first learned of it on Creative Musings.

Things I wish I could say out loud

Hopefully this will be theraputic, because heaven KNOWS I need it right about now.

1) I'm sad that we don't talk anymore. I hate that I never get to see you, and I know that it's completely my fault. I'm sorry about what happened, it never should have, and I feel horrible. If I were you, I'd be mad at me too. I miss you. Also, I'm sad I don't know anything about your life. I have to find out things via facebook? WOW. I'm a terrible friend, and for that I'm sorry.

2) I always miss you, and I'm sad things didn't work out the way we wanted them to. Hopefully it'll be better this way. I hope you end up happy!

3) JUST LOVE ME ALREADY! I'm sick of waiting around for you to realize that we're perfect for each other.

4) I can't apologize for what happened, because I don't feel bad about it. And I feel like you're blowing things out of proportion. I've always thought that you can't function unless you have some type of drama going on ALL THE TIME. I don't want to be dragged into it, as much as I love you. I am sorry that you're upset with me, and I'm sorry I wasn't as up front about things as I should have been, but you're not willing to hear me say any of this, so...

5) I've never been able to tell if we're friends or not. I feel better about myself when I'm not around you. I'm starting to realize that it's not worth it. Don't be surprised if you don't hear from me for a while.

6) Yes, we dated. Yes, it didn't work out. No, I'm not in love with you anymore. GET OVER IT. Can't we just be friends? I hate that I can't talk to you anymore.

7) Come home already. I miss our conversations where we both used to pour our souls out. And now you're so dang far away, and I can't function.

8) I thank God every night for you. You're the best thing I've got going in my life right now, and I'm SO grateful for every second I have with you!

9) MAKE A DECISION. I'm not just going to keep coming around when you don't want to commit to anything. Can't we just talk this through?! It doesn't have to be as messy and complicated as you think it does.

Old Man Winter

No, Casey, I'm not talking about you.
This is EVEN COOLER than you are. =]

Just looking outside and you can tell Old Man Winter paid Cedar City a visit, and I've heard he came to Salt Lake, too! But in Lake Stevens, Washington, it looks like he made a personal appearance! This icicle was found hanging from Jeremy Olden's home. Here's a closer view:

Holiday Greetings

To All My Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my
best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially
responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral
celebration of the winter solstice holiday, practiced within
the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of
your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with
respect for the religious/secular persuasion and/or
traditions of others, or their choice not to practice
religious or secular traditions at all. I also wish you a
fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically
uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally
accepted calendar year 2009, but not without due respect for
the calendars of choice of other cultures whose
contributions to society have helped make America great. Not
to imply that America
is necessarily greater than any other
country nor the only America
in the Western Hemisphere .
Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed,
color, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual
preference of the wishee.

To My Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Life is like a slinky....

Sometimes it's long and sproingy,
Sometimes it's short and sproingy,
And sometimes it gets all stepped on and bent out of shape, and you can never right it no matter how hard you try, and for the rest of your life you're stuck with this pathetic, broken slinky.
And what good is that?

Rock-paper-scizzors?

I understand how scizzors can beat paper, and rock can beat scizzors, but there's no way that paper can beat rock. Is paper supposed to magically wrap around rock and leave it immoblie? If so, why can't paper do this to scizzors? Screw scizzors, why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of college ruled notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they take notes in class? I'll tell you why, because it's preposterous! Paper can't beat up anybody! A rock could mangle a sheet of paper in seconds. When I play rock-paper-scizzors, I always choose rock. Then, when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper, I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist, and say "Oh, I'm sorry. I thought paper would protect you. ...Idiot."

Song of the Moment #3

"I am a Rock" by Simon and Garfunkel

A winters day in a deep and dark december.
I am alone.
Gazing from my window to the streets below on a freshly fallen, silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock, I am an island.
I've built walls, a fortress deep and mighty that none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain. I am a rock, I am an island.
Don't talk of love.
I've heard the words before.
It's sleeping in my memory.
I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died.
If I never loved I never would have cried.
I am a rock, I am an island.
I have my books and my poetry to protect me.
I am shielded in my armor.
Hiding in my room, safe within my womb.
I touch no one and no one touches me.
I am a rock, I am an island.
And a rock feels no pain. And an island never cries.

Bleh.

I don't feel like myself recently.
I'm not sure I know how to explain it.
I don't feel like doing anything, I'm not as cheerful and upbeat as I used to be.
I just feel like sleeping all the time, and not ever getting out of bed.
I may have seasonal depression.
Or I may have mono.
Or, I may be in a spiritual rut, which I think is the most likely of all.
I don't know why I've been having such a hard time recently doing all the little things that I know I should be.
It isn't a hard thing to say my prayers or read my scriptures, so why aren't I doing it more often?
I feel so... ungrateful?
I'm trying to be better recently, but I don't have the desire I once did.
I don't know.
Bleh.

6 Unspectacular Quirks

I have been tagged to list 6 things about myself that some of you may or may not know! This should be... interesting.

1 - I don't like it when my food touches other kinds of food on my plate. For example, when my jello salad touches the ranch from my house salad. TOTALLY ruins my appetite. Foods that are meant to mix, however, are fine (ie: mashed potatoes and gravy).

2 - I can't go to sleep at night if there are socks on my feet. It makes me claustrophobic. I also get claustrophobic if the blankets are tucked under the mattress. As a result, my bed is disastrous to make every morning.

3 - I will go to sparknotes.com, print off the character summaries, themes and symbols, etc from the website, and glue them into the binding of my book, to enhance my reading experience. Not all the time, but fairly often.

4 - I love ANYTHING to do with black licorice flavouring. From licorice, to gum, to altoids, to gumdrops and jellybeans, to candles. That is the most heavenly smell and taste in the entire world.

5 - If I ever had to choose a painful disease from which to die, I would choose tuberculosis. It's such a romantic disease. Not romantic in an "I love you" way, but "characterized by strangeness or variety; suggestive of adventure; suited to romance; wild; picturesque." (thank you, dictionary.com) It's so adventurous, and so many literary and film heroines have suffered from it. (ie, Satine from Moulin Rouge!) All of Edgar Allen Poe's family members died of "The Red Death" as it was called, which made him so fascinated with morbidity. It's just adventuresome and charming.

6 - I never realized I have this problem, until I heard Dani Kent talking about it. When people are discussing the human body, most notably surgeries or injuries, I can FEEL the bones in my body, and it grosses me out. this was never a problem until I heard her mention it. Even now, as I type this, I can feel the bones in my wrists and elbows against the desktop, and it makes my skin crawl.

Well, that's it for MY traits, but the terms and conditions of this game require me to tag six other people. The one stipulation, you have to link me in your blog, if you haven't already. Their rules, not mine. Truthfully, I don't care if you link me or not. I'm not entirely sure I want all of cyberspace reading my innermost thoughts....

But I digress. I nominate Casey Winters, Kate Daly, Cailie Ercanbrack, Crystalyn and/or Matt Jaynes - whichever notices first, Hye Soo Dixon, and Reilly Turner. Get a-crackin' folks.

No big deal...

This friggin' huge bug was only RIGHT in front of my doorway just barely.

It's about two inches long, no joke.

This thing is Satan's very own insect.
Creepy.

I'll post the pictures I took of it later.

Two years later

Today is Edwin's homecoming.
I can't believe that two years have come and gone.
I saw him Friday night, and it wasn't awkward at all, so that's good.
But he's changed a lot, and I've changed a lot.
I don't expect anything to come of this, and
frankly I don't necessarily WANT anything to come of this.
Except for being friends again. That'll be nice.

20 September, 2008

Well, well, well... look who came crawling back

Yup, it's me. FINALLY blogging again.
I'm currently going to school at SUU, and just livin' the dream.
Hopefully I'll be better at posting on this dang thing.
Meantime, here's two photos I took... for you all to look at.

My Dream Man

So I started thinking about my dream man. Not really what he looks like because recently I have become less and less enchanted by the tall, dark, and handsome guys I have spent my whole life longing for. I started to think more about what he was like. What I would love about him, what qualities he would possess that would make me wonder why I ever even considered guys that weren’t him, and how we would spend our leisure time together. As I thought about all the things I want in a guy I realized that I was more or less formulating a checklist for any man who would wish to be with me. So here you go fellas, here are the things that I dream about having in my husband. Here is how to win my heart…

Star Wars: I want my husband to love Star Wars, like I do. It isn’t huge thing, but it is something that I love. I want my husband to be able to take a fraction of his day and just sit with me. But not just with me, I want to be able to host Star Wars Marathon parties. I want my husband to love to entertain and have a good time. Let us examine the underlying issue. The pertinent issue is that I want my husband and I to have some similar interests. I don’t expect us to align perfectly; in fact if that was the case I fear it would end up more like an eclipse then an alignment. I just want to be able to hang out with my husband and do things we both love.

Attitude: My husband-to-be has some serious attitude. I come from a family and an environment that is a little bit on the rocky side. Don’t get me wrong; with that statement I don’t intend on incriminating my family, my family is the best there ever was. My intention with the use of the adjective “rocky” was more like a reference to hiking. Our family is tantamount to a large mountain that you have to be well conditioned to compete with. The most difficult hikes are the most rewarding ones. So like that mountain, my family will require a man that can hang with sarcastic conversation and be able to dish it out too. There is no underlying issue with this attribute, it’s pretty cut and dry.

Jeopardy: My husband will be someone who will sit down with me and watch Jeopardy. He will also be able to correctly answer some of the riddles. I don’t need a guy that has memorized all the Encyclopedia Britannica’s but I do want someone who can carry on an intelligent conversation. I want a guy who doesn’t get lost when I use words that you don’t hear every day. My husband will have the ability to stump me and I will love every minute of it.

Thank You: A wise man once told me that using the phrase “thank you” is a mark of intelligence, so I guess this kinda has something to do with the previous paragraph. The man of my dreams says “thank you”. He can recognize when thanks are due and he is not afraid to say it. I’m not hinting to the fact that I am one who frequently does things that deserve thanks, but when those moments do roll around there is nothing I love more then to be told thank you.

Church: I am not currently acquainted with my future husband, but this much I can tell you. He went to church last Sunday. He went last Sunday, and he’ll be there next Sunday too. There is a good chance he has a calling and he is the guy in the ward that the Bishop knows he can count on. I guess more importantly the Lord knows He can count on him and trust him. That is the kind of man I will be with. He will not be perfect, nor will he have a spotless past, however, he expects a lot of himself and he will amount to a lot too. I guess when you boil this attribute down to its most simplistic idea; you come up with a man who knows how to discipline himself. He knows when to say no, and when to say yes. And that my friends, is the man for me.

So there you go fellas, (if there are any that read this…) that is how you can win my heart. If you can look at yourself and say that you have all these qualities and attributes, then we may have a very bright future! So until I meet my husband, I will be waiting patiently, and probably posting many a pointless blog more.

Self Portrait Challenge #3

The Belly Button!
"Take a look at this belly button.
It's tied so tight, you can't get it loose,
even with your teeth.

and they ended up getting lint in their mouths!"

Self Portrait Challenge #2

Yeah, Yeah. I'm FINALLY doing another one of these suckers.

So, the theme for November is Glam... (Sha-weet) What could represent Glitter Glam better than David Bowie's Ziggy Stardust. Oh, how I love him.

So, here I am. All Ziggy Stardust-esque.

I'm not so sure of how this one turned out, but I am pretty darn sure that I've never worn so much makeup in my life. Breakouts here I come.

I certainly had alot of fun taking this pic though... Something about being *almost* androgenous liberated me.

Or, maybe my dad is right, and I'm just a big geek.

In any case, I can't deny that I pretty much rock.

Song of the Moment #2

The Dangling Conversation
By Simon and Garfunkel
Its a still life water color,
Of a now late afternoon,
As the sun shines through the curtained lace
And shadows wash the room.
And we sit and drink our coffee
Couched in our indifference,
Like shells upon the shore
You can hear the ocean roar
In the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.
And you read your Emily Dickinson,
And I my Robert Frost,
And we note our place with bookmarkers
That measure what we've lost.
Like a poem poorly written
We are verses out of rhythm,
Couplets out of rhyme,
In syncopated time
Lost in the dangling conversation
And the superficial sighs,
Are the borders of our lives.
Yes, we speak of things that 'matter',
With words that must be said,
Can analysis be worthwhile?
Is the theater really dead?
And how the room is softly faded
And I only kiss your shadow,
I cannot feel your hand,
You're a stranger now unto me
Lost in the dangling conversation.
And the superficial sighs,
In the borders of our lives.

Beautifully Intelligent Love Quotes

"She appeared, and at that very moment, and I speak the Truth, the vital spirit, the one that dwells in the most secret chamber of the heart, began to tremble so violently that even the most minute veins of my body were strangely affected." (Dante. Vita Nuova ch. II, line 10)

"This heart of mine, my lady, has been so firmly faithful that every thought keeps me a slave to you. It was early yours and never changed alliance." (Dante. Vita Nuova ch. XII, line 30)

"If I could write the beauty of your eyes, and in fresh numbers, number all your graces; the age to come would say, 'This poet lies. Such heavenly touches ne'er touched earthly faces.'" (Shakespeare. Sonnet XVII)

"Love is not love which alters when it alteration finds, or bends with the remover to remove. O, no! It is an ever fixed mark that looks on tempests and is never shaken!" (Shakespeare. Sonnet CXVI)

So, yes. Those are a few of my favorite quotes of all time. Not sure why, but they give me butterflies. Why don't people write like this anymore?

Old Hollywood

"I am so sick of seeing history's most beautiful female actors portrayed as old women. How many times have you seen Joan Crawford as a 50 year old with enormous eyebrows and clown-like lipstick, Bette Davis as a shaky old woman with a cigarette, Elizabeth Taylor at 220 pounds, or Shirley MacLaine as a psychic nutcase? These actresses burst onto the Hollywood scene as beautiful young women, and they should be remembered as the gorgeous girls that they were." This blog is my shrine to them. It's my blog, so I can do whaever I want. So there.
Clara Bow. She was the "It" girl of the 1920s. She was like America's first sex symbol. See her movie 'It'
Greta Garbo. (1930s). She was so great! And incredibly beautiful. Her portrayal of Anna Karenina in 1935 was amazing. My favorite quote of hers is:"I never said, 'I want to be alone.' I only said, 'I want to be left alone.' There is all the difference in the world."
Bette Davis. (1930s). So many songs have been written about her. Ever heard of Bette Davis Eyes? Yup. She's a beauty. And one of the greatest dancers of all time.
Jean Harlow. (1930s). The original blonde bombsell. Marilyn patterned alot of her signature 'pouty looks' off of early Jean Harlow films. Just so you know.
Joan Crawford (1930s). Back when she was beautiful. I wish America remembered her like this. Look at how gorgeous she was!
Alice White. (1930s). She used to tour with the original Vaudeville company. How cool is that? Amazing!!!
Liz Taylor. (1940s). One of the most beautiful women of this century, and the last great actress to come out of Old Hollywood.
Hedy Lamarr. (1940s). She turned down the lead role in Casablance when they offered it to her. I was so upset when I learned that, because she is AMAZING! See her film "White Cargo." Her quote: "Any girl can be glamorous. All you have to do is stand still and look stupid."
Lauren Bacall. (1940s). She married Humphrey Bogart in 1945, when she was just 20 years old, and stayed with him until 1957, when he died of throat cancer. I wish actresses today were as loyal. Her quote: "Find me a man who's interesting enough to have dinner with and I'll be happy."
Ginger Rogers. They patterned the movie star, "Ginger Grant" (from Gilligan's Island) After Ginger Rogers and Cary Grant, two of Hollywood's greatest personalities. Her best movie, by far, is "Top Hat" with Fred Astaire. The Dancing is incredible. Her quote:"When two people love each other, they don't look at each other, they look in the same direction"
Grace Kelly. (1940s). Proof that the fairy-tale 'happily-ever-after' is achievable, this amazing woman left her flourishing career to marry Prince Rainier of Monaco. The people of Monaco loved her right up until the day she died. She was only 57.
Audrey Hepburn. (1950s). I can't say enough about her. She is the BEST acress of all time. Movies like "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "Roman Holiday", "Funny Face", "Sabrina", and "Wait Until Dark" attest to that. I am so sad that I never got to meet her. She died in 1993. Her quote: "I was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it."
Shirley MacLaine. (1950s). She was so beautiful. I'm very frustrated that she spent all those years smoking, which wrecked her looks, and her amazing voice.

Anyway. That's my tribute to all the beautiful women that I look up to. Go see their movies. DO IT! --Kami

Simon and Garfunkel

I am just a poor boy, though my story's seldom told, I have squandered my resistance for a pocketful of mumbles, such are promises. All lies and jest still a man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest. . . . In the clearing stands a boxer and a fighter by his trade and he carries a reminder of every glove that laid him down or cut him 'till he cried out, in his anger and his shame, "I am leaving, I am leaving" but the fighter still remains.
What a dream I had, pressed in organdy, clothed in crinoline of smoky burgandy, softer than the rain.
But all my words come back to me in shades of mediocrity, like emptiness and harmony, I need someone to comfort me.
I have no need for friendship, friendship causes pain, it's laughter and it's loving I disdain. . .Don't talk of love, I've heard the word before. It's sleeping in my memory. I won't disturb the slumber of feelings that have died, if I never loved, I never would have cried. . . I have my books and my poetry to protect me. I am shielded in my armor. Hiding in my room, safe within my womb. I touch no one, and no one touches me.
look around you, all you see are sympathetic eyes . . .where have you gone, Joe DiMaggio, a nation turns it's lonely eyes to you.
Blankets and bedclothes, a child of the mountains sleeps unaware of the clarion call. . .washed is the ground with so many tears . . .war bellows, blazing in scarlet battalions, generals order their soldiers to kill, and to fight for a cause they've long ago forgotten.

Aren't these lyrics amazing. Why don't all bands/groups have such amazing songwriters?? I love Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, officially.

Late night blog.

I posted this forever ago, (ie: June 19, 2006) But, I'm deleting the site it was on, so . . .I posted it on here, because I want to keep it. the end. -ks

So, it's late. and i'm up. Eating burritos (yum).
I can't really sleep. I'm not tired, at all! I guess I've got alot of things on my mind. Okay, so not really alot of things, just one thing. Edwin. I think about him too much. It's so weird, because I really miss him, but I still see him alot. I mean, we do stuff together, we hang out . . but it's just not the same, you know? I don't know.
He's been hanging out with Dani Black alot, and man, do I love her - but I'm beginning to feel a little threatened. I told my mom that I felt like she was swooping in on my territory, and she just laughed at me. I don't know why I'm getting really possesive of him all the sudden.
I just realized that he has a myspace, and will probably be reading this. Oops. Oh well. Hey Ed. don't get all weirded out by this - just spilling some thoughts that need to get out of my head.
Anyway, I just feel really weird about the whole situation. I didn't want to end things with him. But he chose to, and I guess that if it makes him happy, and if I really care about him, then I should be willing to do whatever makes him comfortable. But I don't like not being with him. So, consequently, I begin to think that maybe I don't care about him as much as I think I do, which is absolutely not true, I just want him to be happy, AND me to be happy. Why does one person's happiness always have to affect another's? That's what I think is screwed up.
I still haven't stopped crying about it since my birthday [for those of you not 'in the know', that's when he broke up with me. Messed up, Ed :) ]. I told him that I still cried, and he said he was really sorry, and he sounded genuinely sorry, so that made me feel a little better.
I just hope he did it because of the upcoming mission, and stuff. And not because he secretly thinks I'm some sort of a stalker-creepy-guy. (well, I guess there was that one time. . . . JUST JOKIN')
Anyway, so that's my thoughts on Ed. If any of you are still reading by this point and want to add some input, feel free.
Also, try not to mock me too much, but a little is okay.
THE END!
Goodnight, I'm tired!

Sucks?

I can't figure this out. and by this, I mean LIFE. I mean, what is it that I am supposed to be doing here in the first place. I feel like I have no purpose, that I'm just wasting time until I die. Wow, what a contrast this is to the last blog I wrote.

I think he got sick of me. For some reason things aren't going well for him, and so he called it off. I don't know why I let myself get hurt so easily. We weren't even together for all that long, and it still hurts. I'm fine with not being his girlfriend, whatever. It's just a title anyway, right? The thing that sucks is, I couldn't make him happy. WHY? What is wrong with me that I can't seem to function right the second I get into a relationship. I'm always worried about making a fool of myself.

But, the second I'm not IN a relationship, I feel worthless. Like there must be something wrong with me. All of my friends will have boyfriends, etc, etc, so . . .why don't I? Am I not as pretty as they are? Am I not smart enough? I HATE feeling this way, and yet, I let it happen with every single thing that doensn't turn out the way I want it to.

I miss being young and carefree. I'm still young, yes, but I think I worry too much about things.

Like this whole blog. So I'm not his girlfriend anymore, GET OVER IT!! It's not the end of the world, WHY is it so hard for me to convince myself of that? UGH! I wish I could express myself the way I used to, but I seem to be in some sort ofd analytical-expressive-communicating rut lately.

Anyway.

05 September, 2006

Ah, the joys of new Love.

I don't even know what to say. My life is going so well right now. I love this feeling.

Finally I've met a guy that knows how to treat a lady. I'm so utterly extatic. I feel like I could just float on air. You know that feeling with new relationships? Ugh! It's nice.

I'm just afraid all the newness will wear off and he'll get sick of me. Blah.

But for now, I'm ultracontent.

Couldn't ask for a better person to spend my days with.

:::::::::sigh::::::::::

I can't even put any of this into words. I'm in one of my ruts when it comes to writing. Or anything creative for that matter.

Shoot.

Also, I haven't worked out in a bajillion years.

Heading to the gym first thing in the morning.

blah.
